TN CORN AND COTTON PRODUCTION LOWERS; SOYBEAN PRODUCTION INCREASES

Corn production in Tennessee is forecast at 101 million bushels, down 34% from the previous crop. Yield was estimated at 153.0 bushels per acre, 20.0 bushels from the 2023 level. Acres for harvest as grain were estimated at 660,000 acres, down 230,000 acres from 2023. The U.S. corn production is forecast at 15.1 billion bushels, down 1% from 2023. Based on conditions as of November 1, yields are expected to average 183.1 bushels per acre, up 5.8 bushels from 2023. Area harvested for grain is forecast at 82.7 million acres, down 4% from 2023.

Soybean production for Tennessee is forecast at 81.0 million bushels, up 1% from 2023. Yield was estimated at 45.0 bushels per acre, 6.0 bushels from a year ago. Acreage for harvest as beans was estimated at 1.80 million acres, up 230,000 acres from the previous year. U.S. soybean production is forecast at 4.46 billion bushels, up 7% from last year. Based on November 1 conditions, yields are expected to average 51.7 bushels per acre up 1.1 bushels from last year. Area for harvest is forecast at 86.3 million acres, up 5% from 2023.

Tennessee cotton production is projected to be 560,000 bales, down 17% from last year. Cotton yields are forecast to average 1,075 pounds per acre, down 175 pounds per acre from the previous year. Producers expect to harvest 250,000 acres, down 10,000 acres from 2023. U.S. cotton production was forecast at 14.2 million 480-pound bales, up 18% from 2023. Yields are forecast to average 789 pounds per acre, down 110 pounds from last year. Upland cotton production is forecast at 13.7 million 480-pound bales, up 17% from 2023. Pima cotton production is forecast at 481,000 480-pound bales, up 52% from 2023.
