On Sunday, a 1996 Chevrolet Camaro driven by Jacob Lee Hale was traveling downhill off of Sparta Dr. onto Highland Square behind Kroger. A 1997 Chevrolet GK2 driven by Michael Allen VanLandingham began traveling uphill, leaving Highland Square towards Sparta Dr.

Hale said he tried putting his brakes on going downhill, but they stopped working. His Camaro gained speed on the downhill slope and going around the curve. The driver lost control and veered head on into Vanlandingham’s truck.

Hale sustained injuries, bleeding from the head, but refused Emergency Medical Services upon their arrival.

Vanlandingham’s vehicle had to be towed away due to vehicle damage.
