HARRIMAN CITY COUNCIL TO BUY OVER $8,000 OF FIREFIGHTER TURNOUT GEAR

In the regular meeting of the Harriman City Council meeting on Tuesday, council members agreed on these items on the agenda:

  • To purchase turnout gear for the fire department for around $8,052.
  • Approved negotiations of a contract for the city of Harriman with Pinnacle IT Management Services to upgrade their website and help keep it safe from hackers.
  • The council also discussed and approved the allowance of the city treasurer to solicit and evaluate banking services throughout the area to see if a better deal could be obtained.

City Manager Scott Mason addressed the council and stated they have plenty of salt ready to treat roads this weekend as snowfall is expected but did state they would like for all motorists to place cars in driveways starting Thursday that sit alongside streets in front of their residence, so they could better prepare for the upcoming snowstorm.

He also thanked those who helped make their second annual New Year’s Eve ball drop celebration a tremendous success.

At the end of the meeting, Harriman Mayor Wayne Best asked for the 5-day rule to be waived so the council could move more quickly on getting the Fire Department’s fire ladder truck repaired. The current ladder truck used by the fire department needs several thousands of dollars of repairs versus buying a new truck which would cost over a million dollars.

The council agreed and made a motion to allow the fire board committee, the assistant fire chief, and the city manager, to work on getting the repairs done at an estimated cost of just over $35,000. The current fire truck is nearing 20 years in service.
