CALL FOR RUNAWAY HORSE RESULTS IN METH ARREST

On Saturday, Deputy Ronald Fields and reserve Deputy Jackie Howard of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the Midway Road area in reference to a horse being loose. Apparently, the horse had been loose for a couple of days and the caller was aware the horse belonged to a neighbor. The caller also said the horse was causing damage to their property.

The two deputies traveled to Midway to try and make contact with the horse owner but with no luck. The two were able to find the horse and began walking it back to the residence on Midway Road and attempted to put it back in the field. But while doing so, the two observed a running Chevrolet Silverado in the driveway.

In the vehicle’s passenger seat was the homeowner, and when he exited the truck the deputies smelled a strong owner of marijuana. But in the driver’s seat was a man identified as Carlos Eldridge, who handed the deputy a half-burnt marijuana cigarette after being spoken to.

Eldridge was non-compliant at first, but would eventually oblige and exit the vehicle. Contact was also made with another occupant by the name of Anthony Stephens.

After they were out of the vehicle, the deputies conducted a search where they found a black zipper bag containing three bags. Inside these bags are suspected methamphetamine and marijuana, as well as $2,020 all in $20 bills. There were also several glass smoking pipes in the vehicle and Stephens had one on his person.

Eldridge would be placed under arrest and taken to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office and Stephens was given a citation for illegal possession of narcotics.

Once taken to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s office, the three baggies of methamphetamine were weighed at around 18 g. while the marijuana was weighed at around 12.6 g.
