DRUNK MAN ARRESTED FOR DUI WITH SILVER PISTOL

On Saturday, Sergeant Ryan Ashburn and Deputy Early of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Pomona Road area for a suspicious vehicle sitting in a driveway. The homeowner called the vehicle in and said it had been sitting there for quite some time.

The deputies arrived at the residence to find the vehicle sitting in the driveway still running with the brake lights activated. They approached the vehicle and observed a man in the driver’s seat slumped over.

The two deputies knocked on the window for several minutes trying to get the man’s attention, and once he started coming to the two observed the man to be very lethargic with bloodshot eyes and slurring words when attempting to speak back. The two asked the man to open the door and after he did so the deputies were able to see a beer can in the cup holder as well as several jars of Tennessee Moonshine in the passenger seat that appeared to have already been consumed.

When the man stepped out of the vehicle, Deputy Ashburn noticed a silver pistol on his waistband in a brown leather holster. The deputy removed the pistol from his person and cleared the weapon.

The man was identified as Frankie Williams, who claimed he was in Crossville and going to see a buddy. The buddy he mentioned was actually the homeowner who called in the suspicious vehicle.

The homeowner said that he knew who Williams was but hadn’t seen him in quite some time.

Williams refused to perform field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest for driving under the influence. Williams repeatedly admitted that he had been drinking and was taken to the Cumberland Medical Center lab for a blood draw.

Williams would be charged with driving under the influence as well as possession of a handgun while under the influence.
