CROSSVILLE MAN CLAIMS TO BE VICTIM OF IDENTITY THEFT

On Friday, Deputy Joshua alderman spoke with a man in the lobby of the sheriff’s office about an identity theft. The man said he received a letter from the Department of Treasury stating that up to 15% of his check would be withheld for a collections debt.
However, the man said he had no debts and nothing in collections. He told the deputy that he had been attempting to contact the number on the letter to find out what the amount is owed and who owns the debt but no one would tell him what the amount was or who is claiming it.
He approached the deputies that day saying he needed this report to send in paperwork for the identity theft.
