WOMAN HITS TREE WHILE POSSESSING COCAINE; CLAIMS THE POWDER WAS A DONUT

ACCORDING TO A REPORT FROM THE CUMBERLAND COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE; On Monday at around 11:15 a.m., Deputy Jordan Winningham arrived at a residence at a location on Plateau Road for a motor vehicle incident. Upon arriving on the scene, he saw a black Dodge van that had struck a tree head-on and identified the driver as Carol Roysdon.

While speaking with the driver, the deputy noticed that she was having trouble speaking, an issue that she claimed was due to throat cancer. However, the deputy claimed she was not making coherent sentences, had droopy eyelids, and pinpoint pupils. According to the report, Roysdon had two pieces of aluminum foil in her right hand while she was holding the steering wheel.

She told the deputy that she was holding candy, which is when the deputy asked her to step out of the vehicle. The deputy was granted consent to search the vehicle and found a piece of burnt aluminum foil between the two front seats and the floorboard, as well as a folded-up piece of aluminum foil in the center console. White powdery substances were found inside the foil, a substance that Roysdon claimed was from a powdered donut.

She said she hit a patch of ice, causing her to crash, but there were no visible signs of ice in the roadway, and Deputy Morgan Alvarez located a cut straw with residue in the driver seat where she was sitting. EMS arrived on the scene to check her medical condition, but she ended up signing a refusal form.

Due to her condition and for her safety field, sobriety tests were not performed. Instead, she was placed into custody and transported to Cumberland County Justice Center.

Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper Donald Sieber, who is a drug recognition expert, was called in to assist with evaluation to determine what she was under the influence of. She would eventually admit to the trooper that she had taken Dilaudid and Morphine the night before driving. She also admitted to having done methamphetamine.

Patrolman Keaton Harthun for the Crossville Police Department brought a field test kit for cocaine, which the powder in the aluminum foil tested positive for. The amount was weighed at 4 grams.

A search warrant was granted for a blood draw, and Roysdon was transported to Cumberland County EMS, where two vials of blood were seized. She was then taken back to the Cumberland County Justice Center for booking, where Deputy Jordan Winningham served her warrants for driving under the influence, simple possession of cocaine, and drug paraphernalia.
