HEAVY RAIN, FLOODING, AND SEVERE WEATHER EXPECTED THROUGH WEEKEND

The National Weather Service in Nashville is warning residents of Middle Tennessee to prepare for multiple rounds of heavy rain and severe weather through the weekend, with the greatest impacts expected across the northwestern portion of the region.

Rainfall totals are forecast to reach between 6 to 10 inches or more in some areas, leading to a high risk of flash flooding and river flooding. A Flood Watch remains in effect through Sunday morning.

Severe thunderstorms are possible primarily on Thursday and again on Saturday. Hazards include damaging winds up to 70 mph, large hail up to two inches, and tornadoes. Friday is expected to bring a relative lull in storm activity, though isolated storms are still possible, especially in the northwest.

The threat of flash flooding will persist into Saturday night, while river flooding may continue into next week. Residents are urged to review their safety plans, remain weather-aware, and have multiple ways to receive warnings—particularly those that can alert them while sleeping.
