Marilyn was born August 15 th , 1947 to Otis and Clella LaRue. She was the third of 6 children
with 3 brothers and 2 sisters. Marilyn was raised in Banner Springs and lived at the old home place
until God chose to take her home early Sunday morning April 27 th , 2025.
Marilyn was blessed with the ability to help people and was determined to make the most of
this God given gift. That love and desire drove her to run for public office in 1998. Even though that
election she came up short, like a stubborn mule, that loss only fueled her fire to work harder the next
go around. In 2002, she was elected Fentress County Clerk.
Marilyn was great at her job because she truly enjoyed serving her community. Ms. Stephens
successfully held this position for 20 years before retiring. She missed so much working with the
public. Marilyn loved spending time with her family. Her beautiful blue eyes would just light up when
her great-grandchildren would run through door hollering “Nannie! Nannie!”.
Marilyn has touched so many lives. There is no one she has ever met that she didn’t make
smile and laugh. Marilyn LaRue Stephens will certainly be missed but NEVER forgotten.
