BLACK BEAR HIT AND KILLED BY VEHICLE NEAR GALLATIN

A juvenile black bear spotted in Gallatin, TN, along Vietnam Veterans Parkway was hit and killed by a vehicle. The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) was monitoring but did not tranquilize or relocate the bear.
TWRA notes that relocation often leads to bear deaths, with over half dying, frequently hit by cars while trying to return. As bear populations grow, their territory expands into Middle Tennessee.
TWRA encourages using BearWise resources to coexist with bears. Guidelines for tranquilizing and relocating bears include cases of human attacks, stalking, property damage, entering buildings/vehicles, habituation to non-natural foods, or not leaving when humans are present.
