Opless Walker, 83

Funeral Services for Dr. Opless Walker, age 83, of Cookeville, Tennessee, will be conducted on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at 3:00 PM from The Chapel of Goff Funeral Home.

Dr. Martin Thielen and Pastor Mark Gaw will officiate with interment to follow in the Whittaker Cemetery.

Dr. Walker was born on Wednesday, September 10, 1941, in Dayton, Ohio, to the late Oscar Lonzo and Nannie Ellen Buckner Bohannon Walker.

Dr. Walker passed away on Monday, July 14, 2025, at his home.

Dr. Walker was a pharmacist for over 48 years beginning his career as the first pharmacist of Cookeville General Hospital, leading 36 pharmacist working with him thru his career. He was the developer of Cut-trol, a patch that would stop bleeding instantly. He was a professor at Tennessee Technological University teaching Pharmacology and was public relations coordinator for Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He served on the foundation board and was appointed by the Governor to help with the autopsy of Elvis Presley. After retirement, he also worked with Larco. He established and organized Order of Redman also known as Monterey Standing Stone Day never forgetting his roots and history. He was a member of Washington Avenue Baptist Church where he also taught Sunday School and filled in preaching when needed. He and Kay also attended Granville Methodist Church. He met his wife Kay at a Valentines Party where they were voted as Queen and King, began dating and dated for seven years before marrying. He is remembered as the most thoughtful person always remembering Kay on every holiday with gifts lovingly given from the heart. They were blessed to travel to 35 countries and go on 53 cruises together. He was a very smart and educated man treating each individual with sincere care and compassion always giving instruction for any medical question asked.

He is survived by his wife of almost 63 years who he married on July 28, 1962,

and a host of nieces and nephews

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Winnie Bohannon Walker, Linnie Simpson, Jennie Foster, Opal Gann, Ruby Tayes, Jim Bohannon, Ben Bohannon, C.M. “Collie” Bohannon, Oscar Walker, and Billy Carl Walker.

The family expresses a special thank you to their special caregivers considered like their family, Beth Brown and Jeff Spears, and to Gentiva Hospice.

The family will receive friends at Goff Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, from 1:00 PM until time of services at 3:00 PM.
