MEIGS COUNTY TEEN FACES 1ST-DEGREE MURDER CHARGES

Local 3 News reports that after a tragic incident in Meigs County, Tennessee, a 15-year-old girl faces a first-degree murder charge for the shooting death of her father, Richard High, on June 10. According to recently unsealed court records, obtained after a lawsuit by WBIR in Knoxville for greater transparency, the teen shot her father in his sleep, allegedly motivated by anger over him taking her phone and attempting to limit her contact with her boyfriend.
Court documents reveal she contemplated the act for 20 minutes before the shooting and called 911 shortly after. Initially, Meigs County Juvenile Court Judge Casey Stokes ordered the case records and hearings sealed to protect the juvenile’s privacy, but following legal action by WBIR, represented by attorney Paul McAdoo, the records, including a video of the initial closed hearing, were unsealed.
The teen is now undergoing mental health evaluations as ordered by Judge Stokes, with her attorney, Sheridan Randolph, assessing whether her case should remain in juvenile court or be transferred to adult court. She is scheduled to appear in court again on August 14.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is assisting with the ongoing investigation, and no further details about the teen’s identity have been released due to her minor status.
