TELLICO PLAINS MAN CHARED WITH SECOND DEGREE MURDER

On Thursday, September 4, 2025 at 11:45PM, a 9-1-1 call was placed in reference to a stabbing at 700 Cagle Road, Tellico Plains. Initial information from emergency dispatch indicated that an individual named Brandon McJunkin had stabbed a male at this residence.
Upon arrival MCSO responding deputy observed a male who identified himself as Keith Brandon McJunkin, at the driver’s side door of a red Honda Pilot in the driveway of 700 Cagle Road. After detaining Mr. McJunkin, deputies then located Jeffery Dale Millsaps lying on his right side at the front of the Honda Pilot. The caller(who resides at 700 Cagle Rd.) was next to Mr. Millsaps applying pressure to Mr. Millsaps’ chest with a towel, stating that Mr. Millsaps had been stabbed. Mr. Millsaps was unresponsive. Deputies applied a chest seal to the two stab wounds on Mr. Millslaps’ chest. No pulse was detected, so deputies began performing CPR. Upon the arrival of EMS, the victim was immediately transferred to them for continued medical care.
Once the victim was transferred to EMS, deputies secured the scene and obtained witness statements from the residents. While securing the scene, two knives were observed in the passenger seat of the Honda Pilot.
The Monroe County Crime Scene Team was called to the scene to begin the process of collecting and preserving evidence under the direction of the Criminal Investigation Division Captain.
Mr. McJunkin cooperated with detectives, showing them the location of where the alleged incident had occurred, which was approximately .01 miles from 700 Cagle Rd.
Following an interview with Mr. McJunkin, witness statements, and scene observations, Mr. McJunkin was placed under arrest and charged with Attempted Second Degree Murder and booked into the Monroe County Jail.
On September 5, 2025 at 7:11 am, the University of Tennessee Medical Center pronounced Mr. Jeffrey Dale Millsaps deceased. Following the notification of the death of Mr. Millsaps, Mr. McJunkin charges were upgraded to Second Degree Murder.
Mr. Keith Brandon McJunkin is a 44 year old white male from Tellico Plains.
