ARGUMENT LEADS TO SHOOTING IN PUTNAM COUNTY

From the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office:
On September 10, 2025, Nicholas Writtenberry, age 24 of Putnam County, was shot in the stomach, flown to Vanderbilt, and later succumbed to his injuries.
Putnam County Sheriff’s Office received a call of a shooting incident on McClain Rd at approximately 8:40 pm.
Friends had gathered to have a bonfire and were visiting with each other when an argument broke out regarding the whereabouts of a firearm. The results of the argument ended in Writtenberry being shot.
Jordan Carper is the resident of the McClain address and was the individual who shot Nicholas Writtenberry.
PCSO Investigators, along with the District Attorney’s office, are investigating the case. At this time it appears to be a self-defense shooting.
Sheriff Farris said, “It is early in the investigation and Investigators are still interviewing individuals who may have knowledge of the incident. After all the evidence is gathered and compiled, we will sit down with the District Attorney’s office and will determine what or if there is any criminal charges that need to be filed.”
