58 MILLION POUNDS OF CORN DOGS AND SAUSAGE-ON-A-STICK PRODUCTS RECALLED

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service announced a recall of approximately 58 million pounds of corn dogs and sausage-on-a-stick products, including “State Fair Corn Dogs on a Stick” and “Jimmy Dean Pancakes & Sausage on a Stick,” produced by Hillshire Brands, a Tyson Foods subsidiary, due to potential contamination with wood pieces in the batter.
The issue, traced to a facility in Haltom City, Texas, was identified after multiple consumer complaints, including five reported injuries. The affected products, manufactured between March 17 and as recently as Friday, were distributed nationwide to retailers, schools, Defense Department facilities, and online. Consumers are advised to discard or return the recalled items, identifiable by specific product names, use-by dates, and establishment numbers “EST-582” or “P-894” on the packaging.
Tyson initiated the recall out of caution, and the FSIS is concerned that these products may still be in consumers’ homes or institutions. The possibility of refunds remains unclear, and the Associated Press has sought further details from Hillshire Brands and Tyson. This recall highlights foreign object contamination as a leading cause of food recalls in the U.S., alongside issues involving plastic, metal, and other materials.
