In the early morning of October 5th, Donna passed away peacefully at her home. Donna was born on August 17, 1947. She grew up in Petros Tennessee, but later moved to Oliver Springs, Tennessee. She was a 1965 graduate of Wartburg Central High School. She spent her early years in Petros teaching Head Start. Later, she would spend many years working at JC Penney and The Alternative School in Oak Ridge as a teaching assistant. During her retirement years, she subbed at Petros Public Library.
Donna was a Christian and sixty-year plus member of Petros Baptist Church. She spent many years playing the piano at Petros Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Sunrise Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, 364 in Petros. Donna enjoyed reading, sports, flowers, and spending time with family. Donna loved people and never met a stranger. She was an absolute joy to be with!
Donna was preceded in death by her parents Fane and Ruby Smith, her grandmother Ellen Cox, Uncle Harvey Lee Cox, Aunt Maxine Harris, and Cousin, more like a brother, Don Cox.
Donna is survived by her husband of 53 years, Gene Hester; daughters Amy Hester, Leeann Griffith (Jeremy Griffith), very special grandson Jase Griffith, Cousin Lavena Ware, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She will be missed dearly.
The family will receive friends Friday, October 10, 2025 at Schubert Funeral Home from 5:00-7:00 p.m. with the funeral to follow at 7:00 p.m. with Dr. Jim West officiating. Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. in the New Petros Cemetery in Petros.
