ESCAPED INMATE CAPTURED IN MONROE COUNTY

From the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office:
In the early morning hours of October 7th, Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Owen Hooper (Bravo Shift) was dispatched to a report of a suspicious person in the Corntassel area. The caller believed the individual matched the description of the escaped inmate Cody Allen Patterson, a short, heavy set male, who had a black beard and was barefooted.
Deputy Hooper quickly responded, searched the area, and located Patterson. He was taken into custody immediately and without incident.
During questioning, Patterson stated that the truck he had stolen ran out of diesel fuel in Loudon County, at which point he abandoned the vehicle and headed back to Monroe County. Deputies contacted Loudon County Sheriff’s Office regarding the stolen vehicle. A short time later, Loudon County Sheriff’s Office deputies located the vehicle, and it has since been towed to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office impound lot.
Monroe County Sheriff’s Office would like to commend the citizen who made the 9-1-1 call after recognizing Patterson and reporting the suspicious activity. Their quick thinking and willingness to act played a key role in safely bringing this situation to a close.
Monroe County Sheriff’s Office leadership would like to commend Deputy Hooper for his outstanding work and quick response in safely apprehending Patterson.
