TDOT TO REPLACE 75-YEAR-OLD BRIDGE NEAR HARRIMAN’S 27-61 SPLIT BY NOVEMBER 2026

The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) is set to replace a 75-year-old bridge over the westbound lanes of Highway 61 near the 27-61 split north of Harriman, connecting to Oliver Springs and Wartburg, with the project expected to be completed by November 2026 at a cost of about $4.5 million.
According to TDOT spokesman Mark Nagi, drivers traveling from Oliver Springs to Harriman will soon need to take the Wartburg ramp and turn left onto 27 South once construction fully begins. Eastbound travelers on Highway 61 toward Oliver Springs will remain unaffected, but those heading to Wartburg will need to navigate a left slant, cross the westbound lanes on a new road section, and then cross over Highway 61 to reach 27 toward Wartburg, where a new traffic light will be installed. Motorists are advised to exercise extreme caution in the area during the construction period.
