FROZEN BURRITO BRAND RECALLED NATIONWIDE FOR POSSIBLE LISTERIA
M.C.I Foods Inc., a California-based company, has recalled over 90,000 pounds of ready-to-eat frozen breakfast burritos and wraps from the Midamar, Los Cabos, and El Más Fino brands due to potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination in the eggs used. Produced between September 17 and October 14, these products were distributed nationwide to foodservice institutions, including those participating in the National School Lunch Program.
Affected items include various egg, cheese, and meat-filled burritos and wraps, identifiable by establishment numbers “EST. 1162A” or “P-5890A” in the USDA inspection mark and specific item codes. The recall was prompted by a positive listeria test in scrambled eggs, though no illnesses have been reported as of Saturday.
Listeriosis poses serious risks, particularly to pregnant women, newborns, older adults, and immunocompromised individuals, causing symptoms like fever, vomiting, and neurological issues. The USDA advises schools and institutions to inspect inventories and discard any recalled products, as listeria can survive refrigeration and freezing.
