DETAILS ON SATURDAY’S HIGH-SPEED CHASE IN BLOUNT COUNTY
On Saturday night just before midnight, 33-year-old Jamie Scott Banks of Maryville sparked a high-speed chase after he barreled his Chevrolet Colorado pickup onto a basketball court at Atchley Apartments, nearly striking a pedestrian.
Fleeing in a reckless frenzy, Banks swerved into oncoming traffic, ran red lights on U.S. 411, and tore through residential yards on Moddy Grove Lane before crashing into a tree.
When Blount County deputies surrounded him, Banks refused commands and deliberately rammed two sheriff’s cruisers, only surrendering after a K-9 was deployed.
Banks, who admitted to relapsing on drugs, now faces DUI, evading arrest, resisting arrest, two counts of reckless endangerment with a weapon, five counts of failing to yield to emergency vehicles, and two counts of aggravated assault on first responders.
He’s being held in Blount County jail on $33,000 bond with a court hearing set for 9 a.m. Friday.
