SHREDDED CHEESE BRANDS RECALLED FOR METAL FRAGMENTS CONTAMINATION
Great Lakes Cheese Co Inc, based in Hiram, Ohio, initiated a voluntary Class II recall on October 3, 2025 (classified by FDA on December 1, 2025) for approximately 263,575 cases of various private-label shredded cheese products due to potential contamination with small metal fragments originating from a supplier’s raw material.
The ongoing recall affects multiple low-moisture part-skim mozzarella-based products and Italian-style, pizza-style, and other cheese blends sold under brands such as Always Save, Happy Farms (Aldi), Borden, Brookshire’s, Cache Valley, Coburn Farms, Econo, Food Club, Freedom’s Choice, Good & Gather, Great Value, Gold Rush Creamery, and others. Affected products, primarily in 8-oz and 32-oz plastic bags, were distributed nationwide across 31 states (AL, AR, AZ, CA, CO, FL, GA, ID, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MN, MO, MS, NC, NE, NM, NV, NY, OK, OR, PA, SC, TN, TX, UT, VA, WA, WI) and Puerto Rico.
The company is notifying consignees by email, fax, letter, telephone, or visit; no press release was issued, and no illnesses have been reported in connection with this issue. Consumers are advised to discard or return the affected products with specific batch/sell-by dates ranging from January to March 2026.
