Bettie Sue Daniel Coltharp, 93
Bettie Sue Daniel Coltharp, age 93, ended her journey on earth 12/9/25 at Roane Medical Center; joining her true love and husband of 56 years, Robert D. (R. D.) Coltharp, Jr.
Bettie was born 9/24/32 in Rutledge, TN to the late Ellis Daniel and Laura Floyd Daniel. In addition to her parents, Bettie was preceded in death by her husband R.D. Coltharp; her sister Ora Lakins; and her brothers Preston Daniel and Joe Thomas Daniel.
Bettie graduated from Rutledge High School in 1950; then worked at Southern Bell Telephone Company in Knoxville TN for ten years. She and husband R.D. moved to Johnson City TN in 1960 where they established the Tri City Blood Service. Bettie was a devoted wife, mother, grand-mother and great-grandmother. She was a Christian woman who taught children and youth in Sunday School for many years as a member of North Johnson City Baptist Church. They moved to Kingsport in 2008, and she became a member of First United Methodist Church of Church Hill TN. She moved to Harriman TN in 2022 to be near family.
As her time here is over, she lives on through the lives of her beloved children: daughter Lore Coltharp Scandlyn and husband Lance Scandlyn; and son John Coltharp and wife Candace Coltharp. Bettie was blessed with four grandchildren: Dylan Scandlyn and wife Mandy Scandlyn; David Scandlyn and wife Leslie Scandlyn; Callie Scandlyn Gregory and husband Cale Gregory; and Elizabeth Coltharp Reed and Alex Reed. Bettie was also blessed with ten great-grandchildren: Kinley Scandlyn, Brett Scandlyn, Zion Scandlyn; Jack Scandlyn, Parker Scandlyn; Oliver Gregory, Nora Gregory, Harvey Gregory; Natalie Reed and Holly Reed. Bettie is survived by her brother Charles Daniel; and nieces and nephews: Jackie Lakins; Jerry and Carolyn Daniel and family; Chuck Daniel; Sherry and Jerry Lafollette and family; Ceda Hambrick and family; and Rob Wilson and family.
A private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations be made to the Tennessee Baptist Children’s Home 1310 Franklin Road, Brentwood, TN 37027. Kyker Funeral Home of Harriman is serving the Coltharp family.
