SEQUATCHIE COUNTY DETECTIVE GETS LOST IN WOODS DURING PURSUIT, FOUND HOURS LATER

On December 11, a Sequatchie County detective became lost in dense woods on Fredonia Mountain near Dunlap, Tennessee, after pursuing a suspect who fled on foot from a stolen pickup truck. Detectives had attempted to stop the vehicle on Deerhead Road; the driver led deputies on a brief chase down a rough, secluded road, abandoned the truck, and ran into the rugged terrain, while a passenger remained behind and was detained.
The pursuing detective lost sight of the suspect and, and due to no cell or radio service in the remote area, he was unable to contact the department or navigate back. A multi-agency search involving local and state resources was launched as daylight faded, and after several hours the detective was located with only minor injuries and transported to a hospital.
The stolen truck was recovered and will be returned to its owner. The fleeing suspect remains at large, and the investigation is ongoing.
Sheriff Bill Phillips thanked all responding agencies for their assistance in safely recovering the detective.
