LOCAL ROADWAY ACTIVITY REPORTS (JAN 29 – FEB. 4)

ANDERSON COUNTY, SR 61 between Bill Key Lane and Old Batley Road: Motorists should be alert for possible daily lane closures during daylight hours through this construction project. ANDERSON COUNTY, US 25/ SR 9 between Broad Street and Cullom Street: Motorists should be alert for temporary lane closures as utility crews perform work in this area.  Motorists should be alert for workers present, changed conditions, and use extreme caution through this area.

 

BLOUNT COUNTY, SR 162 Pellissippi Parkway between Cusick Road and SR 33: SR 162 is reduced from two lanes to one through this project as construction crews perform bridge work in this area.  Motorists should be alert for possible brief rolling roadblocks between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. daily, as needed, for blasting operations. Motorists should be alert for changed conditions; workers present and use extreme caution through this area.

 

BLOUNT COUNTY, SR 35 between East Broadway Avenue and Ellis Avenue: Through February 28, 2026, motorists should be alert for possible lane closures between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. as crews perform drainage structure replacements.  Motorists should be alert for workers present, expect potential delays, and use extreme caution through this area.

 

BLOUNT COUNTY, US 129/ SR 115 Tail of the Dragon: Due to the one lane condition of Interstate 40 near the Tennessee and North Carolina State Line as repairs continue from Hurricane Helene, this is a reminder for commercial vehicles in Tennessee and North Carolina attempting to use US 129 as an alternate around the I-40 work zone. No trucks with trailers over 30 feet in length, or single units over 30 feet in length are permitted on US 129 “The Dragon” in Tennessee or North Carolina. Thru truck traffic in Tennessee should follow I-81 North to I-26 East into North Carolina. These restrictions of US 129 will be strictly enforced day and night.

 

BRADLEY COUNTY I-75 [15.35-19.309] from MM 31 to MM 35 (McMinn County Line) resurfacing: The contractor will continue paving operations. This work will require temporary lane closures in both directions, which will occur Sunday nights through Friday nights 8 PM to 6 AM. Motorists should exercise caution and pay attention to construction signage. The speed limit will be reduced during paving operations. BRADLEY COUNTY SR-60 widening from the 4-lane north of I-75 (LM 17.2) to SR-306 (LM19.9): During this reporting period, the contractor will perform punch list work on SR-60 in Bradley County. Intermittent lane closures may be necessary while work occurs. [Summers-Taylor, Inc./Cleveland/CNV130]

 

BRADLEY COUNTY SR-74 [11.445-11.83] from Whaley Road to SR-60 APD-40 drainage improvements: During this reporting period, the contractor will continue storm drain installation and grading work on SR-74. Intermittent flagging operations and shoulder closures will be necessary periodically. Motorists should use caution and reduce speed when traveling through the work zone. COCKE COUNTY, I-40 East between Mile Marker 446 and North Carolina State Line: I-40 East is reduced to 1 lane between Mile Marker 446 in Tennessee and Mile Marker 7 in North Carolina due to damage sustained during Hurricane Helene.  Traffic wider than 8 ½ feet is prohibited through this area. Wide Loads should follow I-81 North to I-26 East or I-77 South. This area remains a heavily active construction zone as permanent repairs continue.  Motorists should be alert for workers and construction equipment entering and exiting the roadway in this work zone.  Motorists should be alert that there are areas with no shoulders, and no emergency pull-off locations through this work zone.  There are no services in this area.  Motorists should ensure they have plenty of fuel and vehicles are in good mechanical condition traveling through this area.  Motorists should expect potential long delays.  Motorists should be prepared to stop and be alert for slow or stopped traffic.  Motorists should use extreme caution and avoid all distractions traveling through this area.  I-40 “Thru Traffic” should continue to follow I-81 North to I-26 East or I-77 South to avoid potential major delays. COCKE COUNTY, US 25/70 between Tennessee State Line and Hot Springs, North Carolina: Thru truck traffic is prohibited on US 25/70 in North Carolina between the Tennessee State Line and Hot Springs, North Carolina.  Truck traffic to North Carolina should follow I-81 North to I-26 East or I-77 South.

 

CUMBERLAND COUNTY SR-24 [15.056-15.56] from Crossville city limits to Seventh-Day Adventist Church and School bridge replacement: The contractor has closed SR-24 at LM 15.06 to LM 15.6. This closure will remain in place for the duration of the project. The posted detour is along SR-462 and SR-1. The Contractor will be working on general clearing activities and utility work initially. Once initial work is completed, the contractor will proceed with the replacement of the bridge over the Obed River. Motorists should use caution and utilize the posted detour. CUMBERLAND COUNTY SR-28 (US-127) bridge construction and paving from north of I-40 (LM 17.8) to near Potato Farm Road (LM 22.7): The contractor continues grading activities throughout the project limits. Temporary lane closures and/or periodic traffic stoppages will be necessary for construction activities. The contractor has opened North Grace Hill Drive at the existing intersection of SR-28 (US-127) for construction activities. The contractor has scheduled to close Lawson Road at the intersection of Cline Road to install a drainage pipe beginning on 01/26/26. A detour will be posted to utilize Tabor Loop. Flaggers and advanced warning signs will accompany any closures. Motorists should use caution when traveling through the work zone as traffic patterns change. [Jones Bros. DEKALB COUNTY SR-26 (US-70) grading, drainage, and construction of retaining walls and paving from near SR-53 (LM 2) to near SR-96 (LM 6.1): The contractor will continue normal working activities throughout the project limits. During this work, temporary lane closures are possible, and flaggers will be present. HAMBLEN COUNTY, US 11E/ SR 34 near Depot Street and Jay Bird Road: Motorists should be alert for temporary lane closures and brief stoppages by flagging personnel at various times through this construction project. Motorists should be alert for workers present, expect potential delays, and use extreme caution through this area.

 

HAMILTON COUNTY I-75 at I-24 Interchange Reconstruction Phase 2: Nightly Lane closures will regularly occur on this project, 9 PM to 6 AM, on I-75 North and South between Exit 1 (East Ridge) and Exit 3A (East Brainerd Road/ SR-320) and on I-24 East and West from Germantown Road to Spring Creek Road, MM182 to MM185, for various construction activities. These closures may temporarily reduce traffic to a single lane. Uniformed police officers will be present in these work zones to assist with traffic management and to enforce traffic laws. Nighttime lane closures from 8 PM to 6 AM are scheduled on I-24 East and West between Germantown Road and through the I-75 interchange for placement of permanent thermoplastic pavement markings and work on punch list items. This night work will continue weekly from Sunday through Thursday during the months of January and February. The contractor will start daytime closures (9 AM to 3 PM) on North and South Terrace for various pavement repairs, milling and final pavement. This work is scheduled to take place Monday through Friday, weather permitting, and will occur weekly through mid-February until completed. As this work on North and South Terrace progresses it will be necessary to temporarily close exit and entrance ramps from I-24 so that crews can safely pave these areas. Paving crews are currently working on North Terrace, the exit and entrance ramps from I-24 West between South Moore Road and Belvoir Avenue are scheduled for temporary closure (9 AM to 3 PM) on Monday (2/2) and Tuesday (2/3) weather permitting. The contractor is also planning to close exit and entrance ramps during the day (9 AM to 3 PM) for the next week to complete finishing/staining of ramp retaining and noise walls. These closures are scheduled as follows: Monday (2/2) & Tuesday (2/3) exit and entrance ramps to I-24 East (between Belvoir Avenue and S. Moore Road), Wednesday (2/4) entrance ramp to I-24 East (between S. Moore Road and McBrien Road), Thursday (2/5) & Friday (2/6) exit ramp from I-24 West (between McBrien Road and S. Moore Road) and Monday (2/9) & Tuesday (2/10) exit and entrance ramps from I-24 West (between S. Moore Road and Belvoir Avenue). Message boards, signs and detours will be provided to warn motorists of these closures and to guide them to the next available exit or entrance ramp. The contractor will also be implementing the weekend closure of a single traffic lane in each direction (North and South) of I-75 near the East Brainerd Road (Exit 3) interchange. Closing these lanes will allow the contractor to safely access and complete the remaining median concrete pavement for the new bridge over the CSX railroad under construction on I-75. The first weekend is proposed for Friday, February 6, beginning at 9 PM until Monday, February 9 at 6 AM on I-75 South and I-75 North. Due to winter weather and cold temperatures, there is a contingency plan to close these lanes on I-75 South and North next weekend from Friday, February 13 at 9 PM until 6 AM on Monday, February 16 if needed to complete this work. Most of the remaining work items on this project are temperature and weather sensitive. If any of them are canceled due to inclement conditions, they will be rescheduled to take place on the next available day and time when adequate conditions exist. HAMILTON COUNTY I-75 at the Hamilton Place Mall interchange: The SR-153 southbound ramp to I-75 northbound has been reduced to one lane. Traffic shifts have been implemented on I-75 northbound, Shallowford Road entrance ramps, and Shallowford Road exit ramps and Hamilton Place Mall exit ramp. Hamilton Loop Road is closed for retaining wall construction and storm drainage installation between the intersections near Markman’s Jewelers and Texas Roadhouse. The speed limit has been reduced on I-75 throughout the project limits. Nightly lane closures are permitted 8 PM to 6 AM. HAMILTON COUNTY SR-17 (ST. ELMO AVE.) Utility Work both directions at LM .74: Flagging assisted lane closures on SR 17 (St. Elmo Hwy) between 51st St and 49th Ave. Motorists should reduce speed and be prepared to stop. HAMILTON COUNTY SR-2 (CUMMINGS HWY.) Utility Work both directions from LM .69 to LM .79: Flagging assisted lane closures on SR-2 (Cummings HWY) between Hills Dr. and 4347 Cummings HWY. HAWKINS COUNTY, SR 70 between Coran Road and SR 66: SR 70 is closed to thru traffic and detoured around this bridge replacement project over the railroad.  Motorists should be alert for changing traffic patterns, follow signed detour routes, adjust travel times, and use extreme caution through this area.  This project is estimated to be completed on or before April 30, 2027.

 

HAWKINS/ SULLIVAN COUNTY, US 11W /SR 1 Bridge over N. KNOX COUNTY, US 129/SR 115 Alcoa Highway between Woodson Drive and Cherokee Trail: Motorists should be alert for possible temporary nightly lane closures from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning as crews perform roadway construction between Woodson Drive and Cherokee Trail.  Motorists should be alert for crews intermittently pacing traffic between Woodson Drive and Cherokee Trail on Alcoa Highway (US 129/State Route 115) daily, as needed, to move equipment and materials within the project limits and to conduct routine roadway maintenance. POLK COUNTY SR-68 over SR-40 the construction of bridges: During this reporting period, the contractor will continue construction on the SR-68 North bridge. All SR-68 traffic is using the existing SR-68 South bridge while construction occurs on the new SR-68 North bridge. All SR-40/SR-68 interchange traffic will utilize the SR-68 South interchange ramps. A temporary 3-way stop has been implemented at the intersection of the SR-40 interchange ramp and SR-68. Motorists are encouraged to slow down when entering the construction zone and look out for new stop signs on SR-68 near the SR-40/SR-68 interchange. PUTNAM COUNTY SR-136 construction from north of the SR-111 interchange to south of the I-40 interchange: The contractor will continue normal working activities throughout the project limits. REGION 2 The on-call cable barrier repair on various Interstate and State Routes: The contractor will have short-term shoulder and/or lane closures in order to perform cable barrier rail repair. These closures will take place daily Monday through Friday during daylight hours on the interstates and some major divided highway state routes. There many also be nightly Sunday through Thursday from 7 PM to 6 AM, rarely and only as needed. At least one travel lane will remain open to traffic at all times. REGION 2 The on-call guardrail repair and new guardrail installation on various Interstate and State Routes: The contractor will have short-term shoulder and/or lane closures in order to perform guardrail repair. These closures will take place on the interstate nightly Sunday through Thursday from 7 PM to 6 AM and daily Monday through Friday on state routes. At least one travel lane will remain open to traffic at all times on the interstate, and flaggers will be present on state routes during any work that is performed. REGION 2 The sweeping on various Interstate and State Routes: Sweeping operations are planned throughout Region 2 this reporting period. Sweeping operations are mobile operations along the inside and outside shoulders with impacts to adjacent traffic lanes. These operations will occur at night between 8 PM and 6 AM for interstates and high traffic state routes, while daytime sweeping can be anticipated between 9 AM to 3 PM for lower traffic state routes. WHITE COUNTY SR-111 [15.25-16.25] from O’Connor Rd to Old Kentucky Rd culvert replacement: The left lane of both the Northbound and Southbound side of SR-111 are closed until further notice. At this time the contractor will be constructing median crossovers to allow for later work to be completed. Motorists are encouraged to use caution as they approach the work zone, and they should be prepared to stop.
