The Tennessee Department of Health has reported 21 weather-related deaths linked to a severe winter storm that struck Middle Tennessee and other parts of the state, arriving on Saturday and bringing freezing temperatures, snow, and icy conditions that persisted for a week, leaving thousands without power.
The fatalities are distributed across several counties: one in Cheatham, three in Davidson, one in Fayette, two in Hardin, one in Haywood, two in Henderson, two in Hickman, one in Knox, two in Obion, and six in Shelby (the highest number). In Nashville specifically, city officials have confirmed four suspected storm-related deaths and are investigating a potential fifth.
The state remains under a Level-3 state of emergency, with Governor Bill Lee requesting an expedited Major Disaster Declaration for 23 affected counties to aid recovery efforts.
