OVERTON COUNTY SCHOOLS CLOSED FOR THURSDAY AND FRIDAY FOR WATER EMERGENCY

Overton County Schools will be closed on Thursday and Friday due to a countywide water emergency and an active boil water mandate. Portions of the county are already experiencing water outages, with additional areas at risk as crews work to locate and repair leaks in the water system.

School officials determined that safe operations are not possible without reliable access to potable water for essential needs such as drinking, food preparation, restrooms, and sanitation, prompting the closure to protect the health and safety of students and staff. Residents are advised to boil water for at least three minutes before using it for drinking, cooking, or brushing teeth; potable water can be used for bathing and restrooms but must still be boiled for consumption.

Emergency officials are setting up potable water distribution sites, with details to be shared via local media and the City of Livingston / 911 Facebook pages. Residents should also turn off water heaters if service is lost to avoid damage.

Acknowledging the inconvenience—especially after recent weather-related closures—the decision was made in coordination with local authorities out of an abundance of caution. Updates on school operations will be provided as the situation evolves.
