MAN ARRESTED AFTER VIOLENT STANDOFF WITH JACKSON COUNTY DEPUTIES IN GAINESBORO

In Gainesboro, Tennessee, on Saturday night, deputies from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department responded to a report of a man armed with a gun who had allegedly fired at another individual.

Upon arrival, the suspect, identified as Billy Joe Sherrill, reportedly opened fire on the deputies, escalating the situation into a violent standoff. Authorities quickly established a perimeter, and additional support arrived from the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office—including their SWAT unit—and the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

Despite continued gunfire from Sherrill toward officers, the Putnam County SWAT team advanced using special weapons and tactics, ultimately taking him into custody without reported injuries to law enforcement.

Sherrill now faces multiple counts of attempted first-degree murder of law enforcement officers.
