SERIAL CHILD PREDATOR SENTENCED TO THREE CONSECUTIVE LIFE TERMS IN SUMNER COUNTY

In Nashville, Tennessee, 32-year-old Walter Lucian Lewis, described as a serial child predator from Portland, has received the longest sentence ever imposed in Sumner County for sex crimes involving children. Criminal Court Judge Dee David Gay sentenced him to three consecutive life terms without the possibility of parole, plus an additional 60 years, following his convictions on charges including continuous sexual abuse of a child, three counts of aggravated rape of a child, aggravated sexual battery, especially aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor, sexual exploitation of a minor, especially aggravated kidnapping, and aggravated assault on a first responder.
Authorities believe Lewis molested and abused at least four young girls, including a 5-year-old, across Sumner and Rutherford Counties, with offenses dating back to at least 2022 and continuing into recent years. The investigation started when two children reported inappropriate touching by Lewis and witnessing him molest another child, leading to further disclosures during forensic interviews.
During questioning, Lewis made suicidal threats, barricaded himself in a bathroom while holding a 1-year-old baby hostage, and later stabbed himself in the neck with a knife upon deputies’ entry; he was subdued, and the unharmed infant was found in a bathtub.
This marks the first time life without parole has been handed down in Sumner County for aggravated rape of a child under recent Tennessee legislative changes.
