PUBLIC HEALTH ALERT ISSUED FOR GREAT VALUE BRAND DINO SHAPED CHICKEN BREAST NUGGETS

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has issued a public health alert for certain frozen, ready-to-eat dinosaur-shaped chicken nuggets sold at Walmart due to possible lead contamination.

No formal recall was issued because the products are no longer available for purchase, but officials are concerned that some bags may still be in consumers’ freezers. Affected items are 29-ounce plastic bags containing approximately 36 Great Value Fully Cooked Dino Shaped Chicken Breast Nuggets, with a “Best if Used By” date of Feb. 10, 2027, lot code 0416DPO1215, and establishment number P44164 printed on the back of the bag. These were shipped to Walmart locations nationwide and produced by Dorada Foods.

Consumers who have this product should dispose of it or return it to the store for a refund. The issue was discovered during routine surveillance sampling, and FSIS is continuing to investigate; additional products could be added to the alert if needed.

Lead is particularly dangerous because there is no safe level of exposure, especially for pregnant women, infants, and young children, as it can harm developing brains and nervous systems and cause lasting health problems. According to FSIS, the lead levels detected in these nuggets could be as much as five times higher than the FDA’s interim reference level of 2.2 micrograms for children.
