James “Jimmy” Franklin Elder, 86
James “Jimmy” Franklin Elder, age 86, of Ooltewah, passed away on Sunday, May 17, 2026.
Jimmy was the beloved son of the late John and Ruby Elder. A proud veteran of the United States Navy (4 years), holding the rank of PCSN E-3. He also served for two years in the Army Reserve, showcasing his dedication to his country.
After his time in the military, Jimmy pursued a career as a Meter Technician for Tennessee American Water Company. He was also a member of Bethsadia Baptist Church, where he formed lasting friendships.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 27 years, Jean Gross Elder.
He is survived by his sister, Dana Brill and long time partner, Jeff Davis; nephews, Mark Newman, David Dollinger, Joe Dollinger; brother-in-law: Billy Gross; several nieces, nephews, and other extended family.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., on Friday, May 22, 2026 in the Chapel of Decatur Funeral Home & Cremation Services with the Rev. Travis Shaver officiating. Interment will follow in the Bethsadia Cemetery with Chase Phillips, Jeff Davis, Mark Newman, David Dollimger, Daniel Lautaret, and Coty Smith serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m.- 1 p.m., prior to the service.
