As part of the SR 28 (US 127) widening project from north of I-40 to near Potato Farm Road in Crossville, the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) will temporarily close a portion of Lawson Road starting Tuesday morning, May 26, 2026, after the Memorial Day weekend. The closure, expected to last about three weeks, is needed to install a drainage pipe along with related grading and paving work.

A signed detour will route drivers via Tabor Loop around the work zone, and motorists are advised to follow posted signs and allow extra travel time. Drivers should check conditions in advance using the TDOT SmartWay Map or by dialing 511, and are reminded to never text, tweet, or talk on the phone while driving. Tennessee’s Move Over Law, which requires drivers to change lanes for highway workers and emergency vehicles, remains in effect, with violations punishable by up to 30 days in jail and fines up to $500.
