KNOXVILLE MAN CHARGED WITH ATTEMPTED FIRST DEGREE MURDER WITH A HAMMER
Robert Meade, 54, was arrested and charged with attempted first-degree murder and possession of unlawful drug paraphernalia after a violent hammer assault in a Knoxville apartment. Around 6:15 a.m. on Sunday, May 31, 2026, Knoxville Police responded to a report of an assault at 1100 Lula Powell Drive.
Upon arrival, Meade opened the apartment door holding a hammer and was quickly taken into custody after officers ordered him to drop it. The 53-year-old victim, who had known Meade for several years and allowed him to stay overnight, reported being woken from sleep and struck approximately five times in the head with the hammer.
He was transported to UT Medical Center and is expected to recover.
