On June 26, 2026, Richard Doyle Stokes age 90 passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness. Richard was born on August 17, 1935, in West Frankfurt, Illinois.

He proudly served his country in the United States Army as a member of the 82nd Airborne Division. Following his military service, Richard worked for over 20 years as a master mechanic at Bellsouth. He was a dedicated son, brother, father, grandfather and great grandfather, that will be remembered for his strength, loyalty, and sense of pride for hard work, service and family.

He was preceded in death by parents; Raymond and Alice Stokes; son Gary Stokes; sister Geraldine Lutes; brother Bill Stokes; and grandson Russell Stokes.

Richard is survived by his daughters Vicky (David) White, Deborah Palmer, and Marie Martin; sisters Linda Comly and Guyda McGregor; brother Paul (Donna) Stokes; grandchildren Vanessa East, Aaron Stokes, Sierra Tester, Caitlyn Hunt, Austin Richardson; along with many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

Graveside service was previously held at East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery on John Sevier Hwy in Knoxville, TN with full military honors.

Visitation will be held on Friday July 10, 2026, from 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM with a Celebration of Life at 3:00 PM in the chapel of Jackson Funeral Home and Cremation in Oliver Springs, TN.
