Peggy J. Smith, of Spring City, Tennessee passed away at her home Thursday, July 15, 2026. She was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee to the late Dennis I. and Ida Bea McNeal and was a long time resident of Spring City. Peggy was a graduate of Spring City High School “Class of 1956”. She devoted her career to helping others while working at the Tennessee Department of Human Services, retiring after 35 years of service. Peggy enjoyed shopping and eating out. She was a member of Texas Grove Baptist Church.

Peggy is also preceded in death by her husband H.C. Smith; her daughter Susan Annette Smith Hill; her sister Patsy Fitzwater and her brother Jackie McNeal.

Survivors include her son Doyle (Katie) Smith of Spring City, Tennessee; brothers Larry Allison of Alabama and Dennis McNeal of Ashland City, Tennessee; her sister Mary Jane Knight of Evensville, Tennessee and her niece Pam Creek of Spring City, Tennessee. Peggy is also survived by her 4 grandchildren Joshua Smith, Brittany O’Dell, Morgan Smith and Dylan Hill, 6 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday July 21, 2026 at 2PM at Texas Grove Baptist Church in Evensville, Tennessee with Rev. Norman Huskey presiding. The family will receive friends at the church from 1PM until the time of the services. Burial will follow in the Porter-Hill Cemetery
