Amelia “Susie” Flanders, 79

Amelia “Susie” Flanders, age 79, of Johnson City, Tennessee, formerly of Kingston, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 16, 2026. Susie was of the Methodist faith.

Born on January 31, 1947, Susie was a 1965 graduate of Roane County High School. She continued her education at East Tennessee State University, where she completed her pre-pharmacy studies, before earning her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Northeast Louisiana University in Monroe, Louisiana. She dedicated more than 40 years of her life to serving the people of Tennessee as a pharmacist, working in several counties throughout her distinguished career. She truly loved her profession and found great joy in helping others.

In her earlier years, Susie enjoyed arrowhead hunting and had a deep appreciation for her Cherokee heritage. She was passionate about genealogy and spent countless hours researching family history. Her greatest joy, however, came from her family, especially her beloved grandchildren, who held a special place in her heart.

She is survived by her daughters, Holly Bearden and husband, Nate, of Charlotte, North Carolina; Hope Sawyer of Jonesborough, Tennessee; father of her children, John Flanders of Harriman; grandchildren, Haley Bearden Jennings and husband, Philip of Stanfield, North Carolina, Samantha Bearden of Winston Salem, North Carolina, Chase Sawyer and Ava Sawyer, both of Jonesborough, Tennessee; son-in-law, David Miles of Cookeville, Tennessee; cousins, Kathi Hamilton, Carla Herron, and Cindy French, all of Kingston; and her lifelong friend, Verilyn Smith of Kingston.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Heather Flanders Miles; her parents, Sarah Kathleen Ford and Walter Lee Ford; and her beloved partner, Jerry Cunningham.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Monday, July 20, 2026, at Fraker Funeral Home with funeral services following at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel with Rev. Ray Bearden officiating. Graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at Roane Memorial Gardens in Rockwood, Tennessee with Stacey Bearden presiding.
