REMINDER: ANNUAL TAX-FREE WEEKEND STARTS FRIDAY
Tennessee shoppers are gearing up for significant savings this weekend as the state kicks off its 20th annual sales tax holiday, offering relief on essential back-to-school items and electronics.
The tax-free period officially begins at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, July 31, 2026, and runs through 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, August 2, 2026. First established in 2006, the annual event has helped local families stretch their budgets for two decades.
During the three-day weekend, consumers can make qualifying purchases exempt from state and local sales taxes, resulting in nearly 10% in savings. Eligible tax-free items include:
-
Clothing and school supplies priced at $100 or less per item.
-
Computers priced at $1,500 or less per item.
The savings apply to both in-store and online purchases. To qualify for the tax exemption, all items purchased during the holiday must be intended for personal use rather than business or trade.
