August Wendell James Hunt, 38 days
August, our precious baby boy, was born on July 27th, 2026, just two days after his big sister, Leighton’s 9th birthday. He left this world on September 3, 2026, at just 38 days old.
His name was chosen with love and family in mind. Wendell to honor his Pa and Peepa and James for his Papaw. In doing so he already carried the legacy of the important men who came before him. No one could have imagined the significance of the name August, a name as gentle and warm as our little man. It would also become symbolic of the only full month that we would hold him in our arms but we will remember him always.
August was beautiful beyond words. He had the sweetest face, tiny hands that fit perfectly around our fingers and eyes that could look right into your soul. In his short visit, he gave us precious moments that we will hold onto forever. We got to look into his eyes and tell that he saw us. He was looking back. We got to share his beautiful smiles.
We didn’t get to experience many of the firsts that families spend their lives anticipating. We won’t know his first word, his first steps, his first birthday, or what kind of little boy he would have become. But we will also never have to experience his illnesses or his first heartache. And we were given some beautiful firsts.
We got to hold him, to feel him in our arms We got to know his little sounds,
We got to memorize his little face,
We got to witness his eyes come to life and his first smiles. Most importantly, we got to love him.
August was the beloved son of Justin Tyler Hunt and Shelby Danielle Goodwin and to his Daddy, August was everything.
He was small enough to fit in our arms but the work he did during his visit here was enormous.
August was the cherished little brother of Leighton Hunt, Presleigh Hunt, McKinlee Goodwin, and Harlee Ingram.
He was the beloved grandson of James and Jennifer Alderman, Wendell (Jeffrey) and Sonya Hunt, and Deidra Sommers.
He was the great-grandson of Jack and Helen Dingus and Betty and Wendell Hunt.
He also leaves behind his Aunt and Uncle Ashlie and Kevin Warfield and their daughter Eloise, his step brother Daniel Richards, Daniel’s wife Jasmine and daughter Miley, uncles Jeffrey Flatt and Chase King, and numerous great aunts, great uncles, cousins and extended family members who loved him dearly.
But August’s family will always be larger than a list of names. He belonged to all of us.
He was the baby that his sisters would have watched grow up. He was the grandson his
grandparents dreamed of spoiling. He was the little boy his Daddy was so proud to care for. He was the child whose future we had already begun imagining.
His life was short, but it was full of love.
August didn’t get to stay long enough to see all that his life would become. But perhaps that isn’t the only measure of a life.
Because in less than 6 weeks August changed his family. In less than 6 weeks, he brought his Daddy home.
In less than 6 weeks, he gave his sisters a little brother.
In less than 6 weeks, he created memories that will be carried for generations.
While August’s life was brief, it was not insignificant. August left this family more whole than he found it.
He was here.
He was ours.
He was loved.
And he always will be.
6 weeks can hold a lifetime of love.
Memorial will be held at Bilbrey Funeral Home on Friday, September 11, 2026, at 12:30 PM. Family will receive friends from 11:00 to 12:30 PM prior to the Memorial
