RAIN AND STORMS GIVE WAY TO A COOLER, DRIER WEEKEND
Showers and thunderstorms will be the main story Wednesday across the Cumberland Plateau and Tennessee Valley. Rain chances reach 80 percent on the plateau and 90 percent in the valley, with some areas picking up a quarter to a half-inch of rain. Fog will also be around in spots on the Cumberland Plateau during the morning. Temperatures will be noticeably cooler, with highs near 73 on the plateau and 78 in the valley. Showers and a few thunderstorms remain possible Wednesday night.
More showers are likely Thursday, with a few thunderstorms still possible and rain chances around 60 percent in both regions. Highs stay in the middle 70s. The rain begins winding down Thursday evening, setting the stage for a much drier stretch heading into the weekend.
Friday brings back mostly sunny skies with highs in the middle to upper 70s, followed by a cool Friday night. Lows drop into the middle 40s on the Cumberland Plateau and upper 40s in the Tennessee Valley. Saturday looks sunny with highs in the middle to upper 70s, and Sunday stays mostly sunny with similar temperatures. Some patchy morning fog will be possible on the plateau Friday and Saturday.
