TENNESSEE COURT REFUSES TO DISMISS CONSUMER PROTECTION LAWSUIT AGAINST ROBLOX
A Tennessee court has ruled that a consumer protection lawsuit filed by the state against Roblox Corporation can move forward.
The Chancery Court of Williamson County rejected Roblox’s request to dismiss the case, turning aside the company’s arguments that it was protected by the First Amendment and Section 230 of the federal Communications Decency Act.

The Court’s Stance: The judge emphasized that the lawsuit focuses on statements Roblox made about its own safety features rather than user-generated content, and found the state’s claims under the Tennessee Consumer Protection Act sufficiently detailed to proceed.
“Roblox told parents it was a safe platform for their kids despite evidence that it wasn’t. The Court’s ruling means that Roblox will have to answer for those statements,” said Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti.
While this ruling does not determine liability, it ensures the litigation will continue as the state seeks to hold the gaming platform accountable.
