ACCIDENT ON HIGHWAY 111 IN PUTNAM COUNTY SENDS TEENAGE DRIVERS TO TRAUMA CENTER

A vehicle accident on Highway 111 in Putnam County this morning resulted in multiple injuries. Trooper Nathan Thomas says a 2008 Dodge driven by a 15-year-old from Cookeville was broke down in the left lane of travel. The teenager got out and was working on the vehicle when it was struck in the rear by an oncoming 2002 Chevy Blazer operated by 21-year-old Joelle Simmons of Cookeville. Both drivers were flown to area trauma centers by air medical helicopters. Three 15-year-old passengers in the Dodge were transported to Cookeville Regional Medical Center. The accident is under investigation by the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
