Albert Edward “Edd” Dial, age 79

Albert Edward “Edd” Dial, age 79, of Monterey, Tennessee, passed away on April 12, 2023. He was born in Rickman, Tennessee, on Sunday, March 12, 1944, to the late Albert and Viola Garner Dial. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Francis Hinson (A.V.) and Kenneth Dial (Jean); additional siblings include, Faye White McLerran (Robert), Charles Dial (Johnnie), and Rita Wilson (Verble).

Edd graduated in 1963 from Rickman High School and met his wife, Bonnie Jean (Phillips) Dial at the Overton County fair in August of 1966. They experienced a very short courtship and were married on December 9, 1966, at the Columbia Hill Baptist Church.

Edd and Bonnie have three beautiful, shall we say prolific daughters, Tracie Livesay (Greg), Sheila Dial Barton (Edwin), and Vickie Fry (Chris). Their seven grandchildren kept life and travel interesting; Garrett (Amber) Livesay, Griffin Livesay, Grant Livesay, Emma Fry, Walker Fry, Olivia Fry, and Noah Barton.

Edd attended flight school from 1969-1970 in Texas and Alabama. He had many fond memories of his time on the guard and developed long-lasting friendships from his time there. Highlights include being a TH-55 trainer and flying Hiller and Bell choppers/gunships. He was flight and instrument qualified in helicopters and retired from the Army Guard as a Captain.

The Dials lived a semi-nomadic lifestyle living in 18 different houses in Tennessee, Texas, and Alabama. Edd worked for McCord, GTE, Citizens, and Frontier with the majority of his profession as a cable splicer and facility engineer for over 32 years.

Bonnie and Edd were extensive travelers, a passion they passed to their girls. They traveled through all the original 48 states plus most provinces in Canada along with Mexico and the Caribbean. Travel highlights include Vancouver Island, Nova Scotia, Isla Mujeres, Puerto Rico, Saint Martin, and Saint Thomas.

Everyone knew Edd had a passion for unique and vintage vehicles including cars, trucks, motorcycles, and fun off-road ‘toys’. He owned over 300 vehicles in his lifetime and was always waiting to trade his current one for the next challenge. His first vehicle was a 1967 VW Bug convertible and some of the more interesting vehicles include a 1966 Chevy 2 Nova S.S., a 1957 Chevy Bel Air convertible, a 1967 Camaro SS-RS, and a 1995 SSR Convertible truck.

Celebration of Life Services was conducted on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at 6:00 PM from the Chapel of Goff Funeral Home with Bro. Chris Fry officiating. The family received friends from 4:00 PM until the time of services. Full military honors were provided by the Veterans Honor Guard.

A reception followed at the Garden Inn Bed and Breakfast at Bee Rock, 1400 Bee Rock Road, Monterey, TN 38574.
