ALMOST 200,000 FOR MUSTANGS RECALLED

Ford Motor Company has issued a safety recall (NHTSA Recall No. 25V404, Manufacturer Recall No. 25S65) for 197,432 2021-2025 Ford Mustang Mach-E vehicles produced between February 24, 2020, and June 3, 2025, due to a defect in the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and Secondary On-Board Diagnostic Module C (SOBDMC) software. If the vehicle’s 12V battery discharges below 8.4V at key-off, the front door electronic latches (e-latches) may retain their locked state, potentially causing an unexpected lockout condition for the driver or front passenger.
This could prevent occupants from exiting or re-entering the vehicle, posing a serious injury risk, especially in hot weather. Warning signs include a “system off to save power” message or blank SYNC screen, and the need for extra effort to unlatch the inside release handle. Ford is aware of six unique lockout incidents, three involving children in rear seats, but no accidents or injuries have been reported. To address the issue, Ford will provide a free software update at Ford or Lincoln dealers to extend 12V support for 12 minutes post-key-off, ensuring e-latches unlock when inside release handles are used.
The recall process includes dealer notification on June 16, 2025, interim owner notification from June 23–27, 2025, and remedy owner notification from September 29–October 3, 2025, with VINs searchable starting June 16, 2025. Owners can contact Ford’s toll-free line (1-866-436-7332) or a Ford/Lincoln dealer for vehicle-specific information via the Ford OASIS database.
