ANDERSON COUNTY FAMILY STUCK OVERSEAS NOW BACK IN THE UNITED STATES

There is good news to report on an Anderson County, Tennessee family that was stuck overseas because of the coronavirus.

Angela Phillips Wright of Clinton previously told 105.7 News a few days ago they had no way to return back home to Tennessee. Her husband is a professional basketball player and was told he could not leave Abu Dhabi until the season was over. Officials there ended the season last week and they immediately got airline tickets to return home. As they tried to leave, all planes were grounded and the airport was ordered closed because of the outbreak.

However, after several people heard of their story, including a couple of state elected officials and a U.S. ambassador, their trip home has happened!

Angela released the following statement:

“This journey has been a testimony to God’s faithfulness but before we share that we simply need to say THANK YOU to so many!

US Ambassador, John Rakolta, (pictured with the family in this story) met us at the airport in Abu Dhabi and let us know that UAE (United Arab Emirates) did something unprecedented by offering to take us and about 30 other Americans back to the States for free by the amazing @etihadairways .

He told us UAE officials made this decision because of the close relationship they share with the U.S.A. and because so many of you showed your concern for us and other Americans stranded.

We are incredibly grateful & humbled.

From sharing our Facebook post, to tagging politicians, spreading the news stories, reaching out to your contacts, and praying for us…. you each truly made a difference for us!

We understand how undeserving we are as so many other Americans are still stranded abroad.

A special thank you to a few Tennessee politicians who truly worked to help make this happen including Congressman Chuck Fleischmann, Senator Marsha Blackburn, Senator Lamar Alexander, and Lt. Governor Randy McNally. We also want to thank U.S. Ambassador John Rakolta, Etihad Airways and the UAE government.

We also want to give a special thank you to Scott Humphrey at 105.7  News, BBB Communications, WATE, and WBIR for their help.

We especially want to thank all of you that were concerned with us making it home!”

105.7 News is glad to inform everyone that Angela and her family are now in the United States and they have one more flight to bring them to Tennessee.
