ANDERSON SHERIFF ELECTED PRESIDENT OF TENNESSEE SHERIFF’S ASSOCIATION

At the 54th annual meeting of the Tennessee Sheriff’s Association in Sevierville, Tennessee, Anderson County Sheriff Russell Barker was elected president by the sheriffs of Tennessee’s 95 counties, beginning a one-year term while continuing his duties as sheriff. The Tennessee Sheriff’s Association, established in 1971, unites law enforcement leaders to advocate for policies enhancing public safety, provide professional training, and foster collaboration on best practices to create safer, more just communities.
Sheriff Barker expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him by his peers, noting the honor of leading the association while cherishing his role in Anderson County. As president, Barker will oversee monthly meetings, represent Tennessee sheriffs in legislative matters with the Tennessee Legislature and Governor, and coordinate efforts on issues like jail administration, training standards, and crime prevention.
Knox County Sheriff Tom Spangler praised Barker’s leadership and popularity, highlighting his respected work in Anderson County and enthusiasm for his statewide leadership role.
