ATHENS CHILD LEFT IN HOT CAR, PRONOUNCED DEAD AT ERLANGER

A father from Athens, Timothy Blackdeer, left his young daughter in a hot car for several hours on Monday and is now facing multiple charges including reckless homicide.

Collegedale Police Chief Jack Sapp pulled over an SUV after noticing the vehicle moving erratically and the driver holding an infant in his arms. After being pulled over, the driver told Chief Sapp the child needed medical help and was unresponsive.

Attempts by three nurse practitioners to revive the child with CPR on the scene were unsuccessful, and the child was transferred to Erlanger Children’s Hospital where she was later pronounced dead. According to a police affidavit, the child had a temperature of 105 degrees.

Blackdeer said in an interview that he had taken his three youngest children to their babysitter before going to work. he said he didn’t hear anything in his car during his drive to work and didn’t realize she may have still been in the car until 3 p.m. when he got a call from his wife asking where the child may be.
