ATHENS TENNESSEE TO PROVIDE FREE PUBLIC WI-FI SERVICE DOWNTOWN
The Appalachian Regional Commission approved a grant to provide public WiFi service in the historic core of Athens, Tennessee.
The City of Athens will receive $37,500 to make 100 megabytes of bandwidth available to residents and visitors of downtown Athens at no cost to citizens.
A new broadband infrastructure will help connect the 9,000 workers and visitors who travel in and out of the city every day with the 43 downtown businesses.
This addition comes after the City of Athens has experienced significant economic growth in recent years and $208 million invested in creating 441 new jobs.
With adding WiFi services, the city hopes visitors, residents, businesses, and attractions can better enjoy what the City of Athens has to offer.
