ATTEMPTED THEFT AT S.V.E.C. SUBSTATION THWARTED BY SECURITY MEASURES
On February 19, 2026, Sequachee Valley Electric Cooperative (SVEC) reported that early that morning, an individual illegally entered one of their substations and attempted to steal a spool of wire, though the effort was unsuccessful.
The cooperative emphasized that all SVEC substations are both secured and actively monitored by security cameras. They work closely with law enforcement and stated they will pursue prosecution for any trespassing or theft to the fullest extent possible.
SVEC stressed that substations are highly dangerous, fully energized facilities where contact with equipmentβwithout proper training and protective gearβcan easily cause severe injury or death. These sites are critical infrastructure powering homes, businesses, schools, and emergency services, not mere storage areas.
The cooperative said they take the physical security of their system and the safety of their members very seriously. They urged anyone who observes suspicious activity near any SVEC facility to contact local law enforcement immediately to help protect the power supply that serves the entire community.
