Austin James Lee “Hoops” Arnold

There are people who pass through this world quietly, and there are people whose laughter lingers long after the room has fallen silent. Austin James Lee “Hoops” Arnold was one of those people.

Austin left this world far too soon on July 15, 2026, just days before his 30th birthday, leaving behind a family who loved him deeply and a lifetime of memories that will never fade.

Born on July 29, 1996, in Katy, Texas, to James and Kandie Arnold, Austin lived life with a spirit that couldn’t be confined. He saw the world differently. He didn’t just build things—he imagined them first. Whether he was framing a project as a contractor and carpenter, sketching tattoo ideas on paper, strumming his guitar, appreciating street art, or tearing through a dirt trail on his bike, he found joy in making, creating, and exploring. The outdoors felt like home to him, and his hands were rarely still.

Austin had a personality that people simply didn’t forget. He was witty, quick with a joke, and never missed an opportunity to make someone laugh. His humor wasn’t rehearsed—it was simply who he was. One of his favorite responses came whenever someone asked if he wanted to travel. With complete sincerity, he’d smile and say, “I just want to be wherever my family is.”

That love for family never changed.

Not long ago, his friend Matt asked if he’d ever traveled outside the country. Austin grinned and answered, “No, but I’ve eaten a variety of foods from different countries at a hundred different food trucks.” It was classic Austin—a perfectly timed joke that somehow managed to say something meaningful at the same time. He didn’t need exotic places to appreciate life. The people he loved were always enough.

Of all the titles Austin held, the one closest to his heart was being Dad to Marcella Rose, age 9, and Lilyanne Renee, age 5. He loved his daughters deeply. Life had not always been easy, and Austin faced struggles that made that journey difficult, but those who knew him best also knew that the last several months of his life were different. He was working hard to make positive changes, carrying hope for the future and wanting to build a stronger life and relationship with the two little girls he loved so much. That hope deserves to be remembered alongside every other part of his story.

Austin also shared an extraordinary bond with his sisters, Cera Smith and Emmalee Arnold. He proudly claimed himself to be the “best” at car karaoke, a title his sisters would insist was highly self-awarded and generously disputed. They were more than siblings—they were lifelong friends who stood beside him through every season of life. Their relationship wasn’t always perfect, but it was always real. Through every disagreement, every laugh, and every milestone, they remained deeply connected by a love only siblings can understand.

Austin’s life reminds us that none of us should ever be measured by our hardest moments alone. He was a son, a brother, a father, a grandson, a craftsman, an artist, a musician, and a loyal friend. He loved deeply, laughed often, created constantly, and left pieces of himself in every life he touched.

He is survived by his daughters, Marcella Rose Arnold and Lilyanne Renee Arnold; his parents, James and Kandie Arnold; his beloved sisters, Cera Smith and Emmalee Arnold; his grandparents, Richard Farmer, Beverly and Randall Wilkerson, Robert and Adrienne Arnold; Carlo Spurgeon (“HopPop”), whose love, guidance, and unwavering presence helped shape Austin’s life for more than fifteen years; his love Shantel Leslie along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and countless friends who will forever carry his memory in their hearts.

Austin would want to be remembered for the laughter he brought, the music he loved, the things he created, and, above all, the love he had for his family.

A celebration of Austin’s life is pending. Family and friends will be invited to gather to celebrate his life, honor his memory, and reflect on the countless moments that made Austin so deeply loved within the next few weeks.

Although Austin’s life was far too short, the love he gave, the laughter he shared, and the memories he created will live on in all who knew him. His daughters, sisters, family, and friends will carry his spirit with them always.
