BASEBALL-SIZED HAIL REPORTED IN ALABAMA AND TORNADO IN MISSISSIPPI AS SEVERE STORMS HIT SOUTH

Severe weather tore through the South Friday, felling trees, flooding rivers and threatening homes as the system moved east.

The community of Orange Beach, Alabama saw their car windshields shattered by hail the size of baseballs, and quarter-sized hail pelted Texas’s Dallas-Fort Worth area.

In Pelahatchie, Mississippi, video from residents captured a tornado in Rankin County.

Nearby, trees and powerlines fell on a mobile home and vehicle at Lake Harbor and in neighboring Louisiana. A 48-year-old Shreveport man was killed when a tree fell on his mobile home.

A Palmetto man was killed because of an early-morning tornado. St. Landry Parish President Jessie Bellard told reporters seven people had been transported to hospitals with injuries.

Bellard also noted vehicles had been flipped in the chaos and the trailer of an 18-wheeler had been turned over in the middle of a roadway.

Flood warnings were issued across Mississippi with concerns about the Grand River overflowing and severe thunderstorms across the region.

A tornado caused damage yesterday to a part of Panama City Beach, Florida after it formed right off the coast and moved onshore.
