Betty “Carol” Amonette – Caruthers, 80

Betty “Carol” Amonette – Caruthers of Crossville passed away on Saturday, January 10, 2026, surrounded by her children and her favorite confidant, Jeff Harris.

Carol was born in Monterey, Tennessee on August 10, 1945, to Lee Haulk and Minta Hicks Jones. Carol graduated from Clarkrange High School in 1963 and continued her education at Draughn’s Business School in Nashville. Carol married childhood sweetheart, Fred Amonette and along came three children. Fred’s job took him to Wilson, North Carolina in 1973 to start up the new Firestone site with Carol and children in tow. Fred passed away in November of 1974, and Carol packed up a home and their children and moved to Crossville, Tennessee in March of 1975. Carol joined The Carters Ink Company, later Avery Dennison until their closing and then on to The Tennessee Career Center to finish her career in 2017.

She was a proud graduate of Tusculum University, receiving her Master’s Degree in 2000. Her greatest joy was helping others. Her position allowed her to help foster those seeking to further their education and career skills. This was truly her calling and something that she was passionate about.

Carol is preceded in death by her first husband, Fred Amonette; second husband, Dewayne Caruthers; parents Lee Haulk and Minta Hicks Jones; special in-laws, JC and Myrtle Amonette and Robert and Gladys Caruthers.

Survivors include her children, Angela (Don) Carr of Spring City; Robin (Abbey) Amonette of Chattanooga and Scott (Tammy) Amonette of Crossville. Her Partner of the last twenty years and the best support we could have ever hoped for, Jeff Harris, along with daughters Jennifer (Stephen) Hickey and Emily (Rick) Hemming. Grandchildren, Christopher Selby (Phoenix, AZ); Carlee (Ethan) Beaty (Crossville); Allison Amonette (Cookeville); Isaiah Amonette (Chattanooga) Chelsea Schubert (Kyle Stanush) (Texas); Jackie Schubert (Crossville) and a host of nieces, nephews and special friends.
